The Godfather – Editing
As well as The Godfather, there is a godfather trilogy, and there are editing types and shots used throughout. The Editor for the trilogy is called Francis Coppola.
Mainly The godfather has allot of action scenes , and the way the film has been edited , is like it is in a pacific order , like you would expect a certain event or scene to be in that pacific order. Like at the start of the film you have Vito Don Carleone who is the one with the most power, however throughout the film he gets killed, therefore how it is edited is near enough the ending of the Godfather where the Son Michael is in LAS VEGAS to attend his wedding.
The way it has been edited shows that Micheal is next to take over , all the power from his father is moved onto Michael , so it’s like an order it has gone it , for example from king to prince. And from the King to prince, shows the prince developing into a king before he turns into the king, and that process is shown to the viewers, giving that Michael turns into the man his father was and how he develops, before reaching the crown and taking over.
During Godfather there is a scene where the Don Carleone is in a conversation with two other family friends, and what they are talking about is a meeting with a business/ gangster, within their conversation there is shots in the future with them present in the meeting with the gangster, and that shows a editing technique from moving from the present to the future, returning back to the present.
Another scene is the baptism scene, which is a very popular scene up to yet , showing importance of the baptism , and while the process is happening and Michael is present , he is having a war with gangsters i.e. killing them , and that baptism scene is mixed with shots of Michaels team on a murder patrol.
Also Editing techniques is used in the second part , because the second part is about how vito was in his younger days and how Michael is moving on in the future , so the way the film has been edited it lets you combine the two characters and let you do a comparison.
